“It’s Your Move” (IYM) is a real estate consumer education unit developed specifically for high school juniors and seniors. Many adults go through their entire lives without knowing all they should about real estate transactions; this course is designed to better prepare the next generation. It is important they know:
- How to rent or lease property
- How to buy and sell real estate
- The role of the real estate professional
IYM deals with these vital consumer topics in a way that high school students can understand. The program may be offered in a variety of courses, such as Business Education or Family & Consumer Science.
Depending on the teacher’s use of outside speakers and resources, the course takes one to four weeks of classroom time to complete. A video is available to show the home-buying process and help students understand the financial aspects of buying a home.
A Speakers Bureau of trained real estate professionals provides expert information to students. The CENTER provides training for the speakers and markets their availability to schools.
